Former West Morris Track Runner Writes Book: The Unfinished Race

Former WMC track runner is working on publishing a book on female running injuries and the mental psyche of injuries.

(New Degree Press)

My name is Kylene Cochrane, and I ran track and field at West Morris Central, class of 2014. After high school I attended the University of Pennsylvania and graduated in 2018.

During my time at Penn, I ran Division 1 track and field and sustained 5 different injuries. My experience with injury and the mental psyche that comes with injury inspired me to write a book. For the past 3 years I have been working on this book.

My book, The Unfinished Race, is about the mental and physical changes that occur during injury, and the need to transform the running world. There is a newer push toward seeing the complete runner, rather than just a collection of split times. In addition, the impact of an injury to the mental psyche of an athlete does not receive enough attention.

After five injuries from running D1 collegiately, I felt the need and desire to tell the truth about injuries, but also shed light on the beauty of healing. After this long journey, I’m excited to announce that my publisher, New Degree Press, has approved my manuscript for publication. I'll be launching my book in April. I couldn't be more excited and grateful for this opportunity.

Because I’m a new author, my publisher wants to see me build momentum before we go forward.

I need to sell 150 copies of my book in the next 30 days in order to fund the publishing campaign to get published!

If you would preorder a copy and/or share the good news with others, it would mean the world to me. Simply go to https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/the-unfinished-race/x/25187461#/ to preorder.

Please help me in making this dream and reality! Injuries are not easy, and I am hoping someone out there will not feel alone in their injury process. Thank you for your time!! I really appreciate it!

Happy Thanksgiving!!

All the Best,
Kylene Cochrane
