Lady Highlanders Volleyball Spikes Mendham for County Crown

Squad notches 12th tournament title in competition's 15-year history.

Colorful trees, dipping temperatures, and Morris County Tournament titles.

These are three constants one can find each autumn in Washington Township.

For the 12th time in school history and fifth time in the last six years, West Morris Central’s Lady Highlanders volleyball team won the Morris County Tournament title.

This time, the squad completed the feat in just two games over rival Mendham High School, according to nj.com. Central’s Gabriella Savite was named the tournament’s most valuable player as the No. 2 seed worked past the No. 5 seeded Minutemen.

Just how dominant have the Lady Highlanders been at the Morris County Tournament? The bracket-style competition launched in 2000. Since then, Central has won 12 tournaments, with only Mendham (2) and Chatham winning in three other seasons, according to nj.com.

The time for celebration will be short-lived, however, as the Lady Highlanders, ranked No. 12 in nj.com’s top-20, begin the first round of play in the group tournament Wednesday, Nov. 5.

The preliminary round matchup pits Central against Indian Hills.
