Lenape Culture: An Introduction to American Indian Life in New Jersey

Washington Township Public Library; Long Valley; Lenape

In celebration of Native American Heritage Month, Washington Township Public Library is pleased to host “Lenape Culture: An Introduction to American Indian Life in New Jersey” on Monday, November 21 at 7 p.m.

The Lenape occupied New Jersey, southeastern New York, eastern Pennsylvania and northern Delaware at the time of European exploration and colonization. This lecture presents a variety of authentic artifacts, crafts and clothing to explain Lenape daily life, beliefs, history and creative expression. It also explains the special relationships between the people, the animals and the forest preceding contact with Europeans. The speaker, Beverly A. Friend, is of Cherokee heritage, and will make her presentation in American Indian attire.

This program is funded by the Horizons Speakers Bureau of the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, a state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
