Local Teams Shine on the Diamond in First Annual 'Rally in the Valley' Tourney

Long Valley squads have strong showings over Fourth of July weekend.

Major League Baseball’s annual All-Star Game is just around the corner, where the game’s biggest stars in 2015 come to showcase their talents.

Over the Independence Day weekend, however, a look into future professional All-Star Games could be seen rounding the bases right in Long Valley.

The Renegades Select Travel Baseball team hosted the first annual Rally in the Valley July 4th Tournament at Palmer Park over the weekend, with two of the hometown teams proving their worth on the diamond against some of the area’s best teams.

The 11U Renegades took gold after romping through divisional play going undefeated with three wins.

Long Valley’s Lil Freaks in the 8U division took silver after a hard-fought battle in the championship game against Mt. Olive.

The 12U Freaks made it to the semifinal round, missing the title game by one run, where North Hunterdon and Great Meadows battled in extra innings before North Hunterdon took the crown.

Other teams participating in the tournament included the Long Valley Wolfpack, Roxbury 11U and 10U, Chester Bull Dogs, Morristown Shamrocks, Del Val Bombers, Bergen Hawks 11U and 12U, and the Readington-Tewksbury Rebels.
