Long Valley Boy Scout Troop 236 Earth Day River Clean-up

For the sixth consecutive year Long Valley Troop 236 participated in the Earth Day river clean-up event sponsored by the Raritan Headwaters Association. The Troop had 33 Scouts, leaders and family members volunteer for the clean-up held on April 21. The volunteers focused their effort on three different sections of the South Branch of the Raritan River that flows through Long Valley. As a result of their efforts the Troop pulled a total of 18 bags of trash and 21 bags of recyclables from the river and the river banks. In addition, the Troop recovered many large items including a fiberglass water softener tank, a cast iron elbow, three tires, PVC pipes, a plastic garbage pail, a car fender, vinyl siding and a skidoo seat. The Scouts all had some fun while doing this worthwhile work and had a great sense of accomplishment at the end of the day.
