Long Valley Native Anchors College LAX Team Aiming for National Title

Chrissy Baffuto may add a championship crown to her college diploma this weekend.

As if graduating college wasn’t enough of a life-changing experience, Long Valley’s Chrissy Baffuto is on the verge of something equally amazing.

The West Morris Central graduate, class of 2011, is part of a historic women’s lacrosse team at Lock Haven University in Pennsylvania, which has gone undefeated in 2015, and is now part of the Final Four in the Division II lacrosse tournament.

Baffuto has played an instrumental role in the team’s success, being a stalwart at goalie during the team’s 19-0 run.

The Long Valley native and her teammates haven’t just won games, they’ve demolished opponents, outscoring the competition 243 to 94. The backstop is allowing less than five goals per game, while her offense is netting an average of 12.8 goals per contest.

A total of seven team members, including Baffuto, were named to the All-PSAC First Team for the season as well. The seniors on the team were given a private graduation ceremony last weekend so they could be away and compete in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.

The switch was well worth it, as Lock Haven romped Rollins, 12-3.

Baffuto and crew will now face-off against Lindenwood (19-1) in the Final Four round on Saturday, May 16 at 3 p.m. The winner will face either Adelphi or Le Moyne in the championship game on Sunday, May 17 at 2 p.m.
