Longtime Long Valley Resident, WWII Sharp Shooter Dies at 91

Charles Polvino was a sharp shooter and loved playing the drums.

The longtime Long Valley resident died on Feb. 7 – his birthday – at the age of 91.

Affectionately known as Chuck, Polvino lived in Long Valley for the last 26 years after moving west from Wayne.

Polvino was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1924. He served in the United States Army and was recognized as a sharp shooter. He was also a member of the American Veterans Association of Washington Township and member of both St. Luke Parish and Our Lady of the Mountain Church.

Polvino is survived by his wife, Joan, of 63 years; two daughters and a son. He is also survived by nine grandchildren.

A Celebration of Chuck’s Life will be held Tuesday, Feb. 10 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the William J. Leber Funeral Home on Furnace Road in Chester. A 1:30 p.m. funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 11 at St. Luke Parish on West Mill Road.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Veterans Association of Washington Township.
