Murder, mayhem, and manuscripts? The MV Wordsmiths, a local group of authors, gather monthly to critique manuscripts, share writing tips, and plot their next literary caper. Part of the Middle Valley Cultural Center, these authors craft a wide variety of chilling tales for mystery and thriller aficionados.

D.J. Murphy has won awards for his screenplays and has published several books of fiction, non-fiction, and poetry. The Califon resident organized the first book festival held at the Middle Valley Cultural Center and is the Wordsmiths founder.

Charles Levin is the Amazon best-selling author of the NOT SO DEAD Trilogy of fast paced thrillers. The founder of Munn Avenue Press, he published 40 books in 6 countries last year.

Neil Szigethy writes suspense fiction under the pen name Neil MacNeill. Exit Row, a psychological thriller set in September 1991, is informed by his travels in rural England. A Stillness in the Pines, his second novel, is based on childhood experiences exploring the fire roads and moss-covered ruins of New Jersey’s Pine Barrens.

David B. Watts, author of Accidental P.I., has turned a more than 50-year career in law enforcement and private investigation into a writing career. Since his retirement in 2015, he has written a memoir and three novels on the subject.

Lori Robbins is the author of the On Pointe and Master Class mystery series. Her work has garnered multiple awards, including the Indie Award for Best Mystery and the Silver Falchion. Her short stories include Accidents Happen in Mystery Most Diabolical and Leading Ladies in Justice for All. She contributed to The Secret Ingredient: A Mystery Writers Cookbook.

Starr Diethorn is the author of Death at Wildbough, the first book in her Berkshire Hills mystery series. The second book, Death at Kismet, will be published in March 2024. Starr enjoys attending concerts at Tanglewood and the beautiful location inspired her series.

Renny Hodgskin is a semi-retired insurance claim professional nearing the completion of his second novel. His first novel, Wounded Souls, was a religious/legal thriller highlighting the financial ramifications associated with the misconduct litigation against the Catholic Church.
