CEDAR KNOLLS, NJ - A 42-year-old Randolph man is facing an assault charge after an altercation with a Quick Chek employee over properly wearing a mask, according to the Hanover Township Police.

According to officials, Officer Rich Camasta charged John Dedolce with simple assault, endangering another person and violating an executive order for his actions on Aug. 4.

The victim, an employee of the store, told Camasta she observed a customer at a register only covering his mouth and not his nose with his mask, police said. She asked him to please cover his nose but he refused, police said.

She advised him that if he did not adjust his mask and cover both his mouth and nose she would cancel his order and would ask him to leave. Dedolce still refused to comply, so she canceled his transaction and asked him to leave, police said.

Dedolce then threw the food he was attempting to purchase onto the floor and threw the coffee he was purchasing at the victim and then left the store, police said.

The victim complained of pain to her legs due to the hot coffee but was able to get the plate number from Dedolce’s vehicle and provided it to Camasta, police said.

Camasta reviewed the surveillance video and was able to identify Dedolce through his registration and complaint summons were prepared and mailed.
