Register Now For Gingerbread House-Making Contest In Long Valley

Hosted by the Junior Women's Club, the contest registration is through Dec. 1, the public able to check out the creations on Dec. 5.

LONG VALLEY, NJ — Gingerbread makers of all ages are encouraged to pre-register to be a part of the Long Valley Junior Women’s Club yearly Gingerbread House Contest.

Part of Long Valley’s “Holiday Happenings” festivities lineup, the contest is open to “area families, children, groups (such as the Scouts), adults and seniors, with gingerbread houses on display during the contest in Faith Hall at Zion Lutheran Church on 11 Schooleys Mountain Road, on Dec. 5 from 3 to 6:30 pm.

The group prefers contestants pre-register by Dec. 1, with the link to sign up here, to give the Junior Women’s Club a chance to create signs and save spaces for the gingerbread house creations. A limited amount of walk-ins will be allowed during Dec. 4 drop off hours from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

Houses will be judged for their originality and creativity of the design and theme; the best use of candy and cookies; the overall appearances of the houses; and the complexity of the designs. See complete contest rules here, including materials allowed.

The contest is open for children ages 7-12 as well as 12-17, with adult assistance only allowed with baking and cutting; the family category with at least one adult older than 18 and child of any age; the group category; and adult category for people older than 18.

Winners in all the categories judged in the contest, will be displayed at the Junior Women’s Club’s Racks Valley Boutique through December, with ribbons and prizes given for the top houses.
