Saturday Temperatures Break Records In New Jersey

Record-breaking cold temperatures were reported this morning in New Jersey.

The low temperature in Newark was 24 degrees, breaking the previous record of 25 degrees from 1956. In Atlantic City, where it was 22 degrees this morning, the temperature tied for its record low.

On Saturday, high temperatures will only be in the mid-30s — about 20 degrees below average for this time of year.

These temperatures are more like January then early November, but how long will they last?

Luckily, not too much longer.

According to the National Weather Service, the high will reach the upper 40s in Trenton on Sunday. Highs in the 50s are expected throughout next week. However, forecasters warn of another cold blast late in the week into the following week.

Signs are pointing toward a displacement of the "polar vortex," accompanied by a significant storm with rain, snow and wind impacting the Northeast during the days prior to Thanksgiving, according to AccuWeather.

"There is the risk for the first major snowstorm somewhere in the Northeast during the period from Saturday, Nov. 18, to Tuesday, Nov. 22," AccuWeather Lead Long-Range Meteorologist Paul Pastelok said in a release.
