Schooley's Mountain Firefighter, Raiders Football Founder Dies at 77
'Bill' Sergent, Sr., was a lifelong resident of Long Valley.

Harold ‘Bill’ Sergent, Sr. gave an invaluable amount of his time and effort to Washington Township.
The lifelong Long Valley resident died recently at the age of 77.
Sergent worked for the Morris County Road Department for 36 years before retirement, with his final position as the Assistant Superintendent of Roads.

Sergent worked for Mine Brook Golf Club after retiring from the road department, and was a life member of the Schooley’s Mountain Fire Protection Association, as well as the Schooley’s Mountain Presbyterian Church, now known as the Highlands Presbyterian Church.
On top of that, Sergent is one of the founding members of the Long Valley Raiders Football Association.

Sergent was predeceased by his wife, Betty, in 2010. He is survived by a son, two daughters, and two grandchildren.
Visitation is set for Monday, Aug. 10 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Cochran Funeral Home on High Street in Hackettstown. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Aug. 11 at Highlands Presbyterian Church on Heath Lane in Long Valley.
