Shoplifter, DWI Drivers, And More Nabbed in Long Valley: Police Blotter

LONG VALLEY, NJ — Washington Township police reported several recent incidents that led to arrests, summonses and pending court appearances in municipal and superior court.

Drug Charges

According to a department activity summary, one Route 46 motor vehicle stop for a traffic violation led to a vehicle search conducted with help from the Morris County Sheriff's Office K-9 Unit. Police reported that suspected heroin and drug paraphernalia were found in the vehicle. The driver, a Rhode Island woman, was arrested, issued a complaint summons, and released pending a court appearance in Morris County Superior Court.

2 DWIs

In another stop, an officer pulled over a driver on Schooleys Mountain Road for a traffic violation. During that investigation, police determined the driver, a woman, was operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, according to the department. She was arrested, processed, and released in accordance with John's Law pending a court appearance in Washington Township Municipal Court.

The department also described a separate DWI arrest following a Route 46 motor vehicle stop for a traffic violation. In that case, police determined that the driver, an adult man, was operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested, processed, and released to a responsible adult in accordance with John's Law pending a court appearance in Washington Township Municipal Court.

Target Shoplifter

Police also responded to the local Target store after a report of a shoplifting in progress. According to the department summary, officers located three adult women who allegedly attempted to leave the store with unpaid merchandise. Police reported that all three women were from out of state. They were taken into custody, issued complaint summonses for shoplifting, and released pending appearances in Morris County Superior Court.

Outstanding Warrant

In another case, an officer stopped a vehicle on Mountain Avenue after observing a local ordinance violation on East Avenue. During the investigation, police discovered that the driver had an active warrant issued by the Ocean County Sheriff's Office, according to the department. The individual was taken into custody, processed at police headquarters and transported to the Morris County Correctional Facility pending transfer to the Ocean County Sheriff's Office.
