It is always an honor to be a member of any varsity team. But it is even a bigger deal when one is made varsity as an underclassman. However, the downside is underclassmen are always kept in the shadow of the senior class whose members may also have previously gone through a similar fate. Varsity underclassmen do not get to sit at the head table at picnic or year-end banquet, varsity underclassmen do not get their names mentioned as frequently and varsity underclassmen do not get all the playing times on the field that they may deserve. And that is how things go!
This blog is to celebrate the underclassmen of WMC soccer. Some of these players will get all the glory for being seniors next year while a few will continue to silently contribute to the success of the team for another season prior to having their turn at the head table. Since I will not be there to enjoy the game from the sideline next season, I wish all remaining varsity members continued success with the soccer program at WMC.

* Play smart: Referees do not reverse their decisions when players complain, however loudly, so leave the complaints to your coach and concentrate on winning the game.
* Play clean: Superstars do not play dirty. Besides, your behavior on the field also reflects those of your coach, your school, your community and your family. Respect the rules and concentrate on winning the game.

* Play for the team: You are on the field to help the team win. What purpose will it serve if you get thrown out for un-sportsman conduct? Concentrate on winning the game.
