Updated Details On New Jersey Nor'easter Released

The National Weather Service has released updated details on a coastal nor'easter expected to hit New Jersey on Sunday and Monday.

The storm that was initially predicted to produce heavy, wet snow is still expected to have an impact, even though snow totals have been lowered to about 1 to 2 inches in most areas. But it could still be a sloppy mixture of rain, freezing rain and snow that could affect commuters.

The National Weather Service has released these details:

• The majority of the accumulating snow is now expected Sunday night.
• Elevated water levels along the coastline are anticipated to remain below the minor coastal flood threshold.
• A mixture of light rain and snow will overspread the area encompassing the I-195-276-76 corridor and points south prior to midnight tonight, and continue into the overnight.

• Precipitation to the north of this area is becoming less likely Saturday night, where it will be mainly dry.
• By midnight Saturday, precipitation is expected to change over to wet snow. The only exception will be southern Delmarva and far southern New Jersey, where predominantly rain will prevail. Minor snowfall accumulations of a few tenths of an inch possible.
• Precipitation over PA and NJ will taper down early Sunday morning.
• Precipitation will overspread the region along and east of the I-95 corridor in NJ, as well as the state of Delaware, beginning late Sunday morning, and ending early Monday morning.
• Precipitation is likely for this area, while there is only a chance of precipitation for the remainder of the region.
• During the day Sunday, most of this precipitation will fall as rain, with temperatures around 40 degrees.
• On Sunday night, the rain/snow line will move to the coast, with a changeover to snow occurring down the shore, mainly impacting New Jersey. The majority of the snowfall is expected to occur Sunday night, and as temperatures fall into the mid and lower 30s, there is increasing potential for snowfall accumulation on paved surfaces.
• The snow should gradually end by Monday morning. If enough snow can accumulate on the pavement in NJ, along and east of the I-95 corridor, the Monday morning commute could be impacted.
• Storm Total Snowfall amounts have decreased, especially west of I-95, where less than one inch is now expected. In New Jersey, along and to the east of I-95, 1 to 2 inches of snowfall is forecast.
• The snowfall will be wet, sticking to trees and powerlines.
• There is the potential for wind gusts around 30 mph near the coast, and around 25 mph further inland.
• For the high tides occurring Sunday evening and Monday morning, elevated water levels are anticipated, but are expected to remain below the minor coastal flood threshold.

Here is the updated forecast:

Sunday night: Snow, mainly before 2 a.m. Low around 30. Northeast wind 6 to 8 mph becoming north after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New snow accumulation of around an inch possible.

Monday: A chance of snow before noon. Mostly sunny, with a high near 50. Northwest wind 6 to 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.Monday NightMostly clear, with a low around 28.
