USFA teaches Fistball at Eisenhower Middle School

The United States Fistball Association (USFA) was at the Eisenhower Middle School to give the students a brief introduction to the game

The United States Fistball Association (USFA) was at the Eisenhower Middle School this past week to give the students a brief introduction to the game of Fistball. In August the Pan-American Fistball Games were held at the Swim ad Sport Club (SSC) in Roxbury. The tournament ran from Aug. 27 through 30, and included the Pan-American Championship for national teams and the Pan-American Cup for club teams. Men’s and women’s teams from the United States, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, & Columbia competed. Off the recent success of the Pan-American Fistball Games, Bob Feid, USFA President and Fistball Director at the SSC along with USFA Coach Steve Groeber are looking to get more youth involved in the sport.

“This is the second time the USFA has been to Eisenhower Middle School,” said Feid. “The last time was in the spring, when we wanted to educate people in town about the sport ahead of the Pan-Am Games. Everyone that came to see the games loved it, and we are trying to keep the excitement going. We’d like to thank the Physical Education teachers for having us.”

The USFA and the Swim and Sport Club will be working with the Roxbury Recreation Department to have a formal introduction to fistball in the spring. Bob Feid is headed to Argentina on Nov.14 - 22 with the USA National Men’s team for the Men’s World Championships.

“With the renewed interest in Fistball, this is a great opportunity for local athletes to get involved with the National program. The USFA hopes to get more youth involved from all areas of the country, including Roxbury home of Fistball legacy.”

The Swim and Sport Club has been playing Fistball in Roxbury since they relocated from Newark in 1938. The group has hosted international teams previously to play in our local tournaments over the years. “The Pan-American Fistball Games put Roxbury and the Swim and Sport Club on the Fistball map. Now we need to bring in some young players so we can be known for our ability to play”, said Feid.
