WATCH: Fire Engulfs Car After Crash, Shuts Long Valley Roads

Minor injuries for multiple drivers, passengers.

A major intersection in Long Valley was closed Thursday afternoon after a two-car crash turned into an intense fire before firefighters could extinguish the blaze.

Two vehicles collided at the intersection of Parker and Old Farmers roads just before 2 p.m. A total of four occupants from the two vehicles walked away from the crash shaken up with what appeared to be only minor injuries.

Before police and firefighters could arrive on scene, one of the vehicles, a Jeep Wrangler, became engulfed in flames. Smoke billowed high into the sky as traffic was diverted in all four directions.

A policeman’s efforts to knock down the fire with a handheld extinguisher was futile, and the vehicle was unrecognizable once firefighters were able to quell the blaze.

After an investigation it was revealed the Jeep was traveling east on Parker Road through the intersection when it was struck by a Honda Pilot, which was heading south on Old Farmers Road. The driver of the Pilot was issued a summons for not stopping at the stop sign and causing the crash, Lt. Doug Compton said.
