File this one to the “Only in Long Valley” category.

Motorists on the northern side of Schooley’s Mountain Road found themselves in a wooly situation Saturday afternoon, when a herd of sheep lost their way and clogged up the county road.

The herd mulled around the road just after noon in the area of Cataract Park, according to a Long Valley Patch reader who submitted a photo from the scene.

“Not sure where they came from,” the unidentified reader said in an email. “There were two blonde dogs with them trying to keep the herd together … looked like long-haired labs. Eventually folks got out of their cars and helped the sheepdogs get the herd out of harm’s way.”

No motorists or sheep were harmed as a result of the traffic jam.
