West Morris Alum Drafted By Red Sox

Andrew Politi is headed to Boston to continue his baseball career.

LONG VALLEY, NJ — West Morris baseball alum Andrew Politi has been drafted by the Red Sox in the fifteenth round of the MLB draft.

Politi, a right-handed pitcher, was the 460th overall pick in the draft. He is a junior in college Seton Hall. In 2018, he was named to the Big East Championship All-Tournament Team.

Over 17 games, Politi started six times, and pitched to a 5-4 record with a 5.44 ERA and 67 strikeouts with 29 walks in 48.0 innings pitched, according to the Seton Hall website.

During his time at West Morris Central, Politi played on varsity for three years, and was team captain his senior year. He was named to All-Conference and All-Area in 2014, the same year he threw a regular-season no hitter, and two shutouts in the Morris County Tournament.

He was one of three Seton Hall players, all pitchers, to be drafted today: Shane McCarthy is headed to the Indians, and Billy Layne, Jr., is headed to the Rangers.

Another Jersey native, Seneca High Schooler Nick Decker, an outfielder, was picked in the second round of the draft by the Red Sox.
