Winter Storm Targets Long Valley: See Latest Forecast, Preparations
Some areas could see nearly two feet of snowfall, forecasters say.
LONG VALLEY, NJ — Public safety officials are hunkering down for what forecasters are expecting to be a major storm this weekend.
A shift in the weekend storm track will see most of New Jersey hit with 12 to 18 inches of snow as the threat of ice increases, according to the latest forecast.
Major impacts, including heavy snow and ice, are expected, the National Weather Service said in a Friday morning briefing.

The Washington Township Police Department is urging residents to use caution during the storm and reminds them to report power outages "as quickly as possible" by calling 1-888-544-4877 (1-888-LIGHTSS).
"Household preparation for the storm should include ensuring an adequate supply of bottled water, non-perishable food, medications, pet food, and fuel for vehicles and generators," a police statement read. "Be sure to have all electronic devices fully charged in the eventuality of power outages."

Police also said to expect potential road closures, downed trees, and power outages in the area. Residents are asked to stay home unless absolutely necessary, and those who do travel should plan their route ahead of time.
Residents should keep an eye on the Washington Township School District's website for updates on closures and delays on Monday.
A Code Blue has been activated in Morris County from now until the end of the day Tuesday. A Code Blue occurs when the National Weather Service forecasts temperatures reaching 32 degrees or lower.
The National Homelessness Coalition reports that around 700 people experiencing or at-risk of homelessness die from hypothermia annually in the United States each year.
