WMC Boys & Girls Fencing Team Success at Morris County Championships
WMC wins Girls Foil Squad County Title & Girls Foil Individual County Title, 5 Individual Finalists
On Saturday 1/14, the WMC Fencing Team spent over 8 hours at Randolph High School, participating in the Morris County Championship Tournament. They faced the best fencers from every other school in the county, fighting for team, squad and individual titles.
Overall, the boys team, coached by Sabina Orsi, took 4th place. The girls team, coached by Gladys Berardi, took 5th place.
Within squad results, the Girls Foil Squad was crowned Champions, winning 1st place by a significant margin. Juniors Julia DiPaolo, Sanjana Kuttikat and Gabby Flynn combined for a total of 23 wins out of 27 bouts, 7 victories more than second place. This is the second year in a row that WMC Girls Foil has held the title. The Boys Sabre Squad, made up of Seniors Jake Biondolillo, Baylor Tumminelli and Tyler Kometani, had a strong showing, taking 4th place with a combined total of 18 victories.

Five WMC fencers qualified as individual finalists, and continued on to compete in the afternoon for the top spot in the county. WMC's Junior Foil Captain, Julia DiPaolo, brought home the title for Girls Foil County Champion, going undefeated in all 14 bouts on the day. Junior Sanjana Kuttikat also medaled, bringing home 3rd place in Girls Individual Foil.
Senior Captain Sam Graff finished in 5th place in Girls Sabre; Senior Tyler Kometani finished in 5th place in Boys Sabre; and Sophomore Kieran Jackson finished in 6th place in Boys Epee.
Next on the schedule for WMC Fencing is a home conference meet against Kinnelon on Wednesday 1/18 at 6pm. Spectators are welcome to attend!
