Chatham Woman, 76, Charged With DUI In Madison School Zone: Cops

The officer made the arrest outside of Whole Foods.

MADISON, NJ - A 76-year-old woman was charged with driving under the influence and a 23-year-old man was charged with various drug offenses, according to Madison Police.

Lenora B. Weinstein, 76, of Chatham Township was arrested outside of the Whole Foods and charged with driving while intoxicated on Aug. 31, police said. According to police, Patrolman Nelson Jimenez was dispatched to the area of the Whole Foods on the report of a drunken driver. Dispatch had furnished Jimenez with a description of the vehicle and Jimenez found a vehicle that matched that description inside of Whole Foods Market, police said.

Jimenez met with the Weinstein, who was the driver of the vehicle, and observed signs of impairment and asked the driver to perform field sobriety evaluations, police said. After completing his investigation and evaluation Jimenez arrested Weinstein for driving while intoxicated and transported her to the Madison Police Department for arrest processing, police said.

In addition, she was charged with DWI in a school zone, failure to submit breath samples, careless driving, and reckless driving, police said. She was later released to a friend pending a court appearance in Madison Municipal Court.

An equipment violation stop led to the arrest of 23-year-old Shone L. Register Jr. of Madison with charges stemming from motor vehicle violations to drug offenses, police said. According to police, Patrolman Kyle McDermott stopped register's vehicle on Walnut Street for an equipment violation shortly before 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 31

During the stop, McDermott found that Register’s driving privileges were suspended by the State of New Jersey, police said. During the investigation, McDermott observed obvious signs of drug use inside of the vehicle, police said. Register was later found to be in possession of suspected marijuana and arrested on scene, police said. He was charged with possession of hash over 5 grams, a 4th degree crime, possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to give controlled dangerous substances to police, both disorderly person’s offenses, police said.

Register was additionally charged with the following motor vehicle violations: driving while suspended, possession of controlled dangerous substances in a motor vehicle, and improper visibility of lamps. He was later released pending a court appearance in Morris County Superior Court.
