The Chatham Interfaith Council is bringing people of different religions together for dialogue and fellowship at its first annual Abraham luncheon on Tuesday, March 18 at Noon.
The luncheon, which is free and open to the public, will be held at the Chatham United Methodist Church. Those wishing to attend are asked to RSVP so there are enough seats and enough food.
The event also includes a speakers panel, with representatives from the Christian, Jewish and Muslim religions. The topic will be: The Role of Personal Prayer, from Jewish, Christian and Muslim Perspectives.
Rev. Jeff Markay, the pastor at the Chatham United Methodist Church, said he hopes to make the lunch a tradition to bring people of all faiths together. "The goal is to get Jews, Muslims and Christians int he same room, eating together and speaking together to find common ground."
Among those speaking will be Prof. Jonathan Golden, Associate Director for the Center on Religion, Culture and Conflict at Drew University. Other speakers include Rev. Edward M. Halldorson, senior pastor of The Presbyterian Church of Chatham Township and Harun Alacadag, Director of Interfaith Dialogue of the Peace Islands Institute.
Those who would like to attend are asked to RSVP by May 16 by calling 973-635-7740 or emailing: church secretary@optonoline.net
