Field Hockey Impressive Against Tough Foe
Dodgers hand Parsippany only its third loss of the season.
The Madison High School field hockey team showed great chemistry on Wednesday afternoon, as the Dodgers cruised to a 3-0 win over Parsippany High School (6-3), in Madison.
In this one, the Dodgers put on what might have been their best performance of the 2010 season as they dominated in every facet of the game throughout the entire contest.
"We stepped up today, played as a unit, defended well and we finally put the balls in (the goal) that we need to," Madison head coach Ann Marie Davies said. "I think we played really well today and I'm proud of them. Especially coming off that last game."

A problem that has plagued Madison thus far into the season has been an inability to finish. On Wednesday, the Dodgers were able to remedy that ailment.
"They're working hard," Davies said. "We came from less experience and now the kids are getting more playing time and more confidence and you can see. They're learning to trust each other and work with each other. It's making a difference."

Starting things off for Madison was freshman Michelle Montagna, as she ripped a shot past Parsippany goalie Kelly Serrao at 9:46 of the first half, giving Madison a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, just as in the first, Madison continued dominating the Red Hawks, although struggling to find the net despite a number of opportunities.
"We're working on finishing, but our corners were better today and now we're getting more chances," Davies said. "We'll finish."
But late in the game, the Dodgers capitalized on their chances, putting the game out of reach for Parsippany.
With 6:27 remaining, Montagna broke free. The freshman centered a pass to senior captain Allison Helwig, and Helwig capitalized on the opportunity, making the score 2-0.
"It was good," Helwig said of the team's performance. "This win is more than just a win. We finally came together as a team. Our passing was all there and we were talking a lot more. That's something we've been missing in all of our games, so it was a good feeling."
"If you've seen us play from (preseason) to today, we've finally put it all together. Our chemistry is so much better," Helwig added.
Three minutes later, junior Maggie Dalena improved the Dodgers' lead to three as she scored off of a pass from a penalty corner, sealing the win for Madison.
"We've played some tough teams," Davies surmised. "This team was seeded ahead of us in the (Morris County Tournament) and they only have two losses. They're a scrappy team."
"We're learning quickly," Davies added.
