Good Food, Familiar Surroundings a Hallmark of Florham Park Pizzeria

Italian specialist a familiar face nearby.

Patch will make a startling admission right now: We love pizza and pizzerias. Greasy, cheesy, give it to us easy — it’s all good.

If you were raised in North Jersey like Patch, then you know there’s no such thing as bad pizzeria pizza. In fact, it was only in its adult years that Patch came to appreciate, for example, , its pizza soaked in olive oil and cooked at such a high temperature that the cheese bubbled and charred, leaving the surface looking like a Sorrento moonscape.

But Patch doesn’t judge a pizzeria solely by its namesake food. A true pizza joint must have atmosphere and creature comforts, such as the ever-present TV — usually balanced precariously on the refrigerated soft drink case — and always, ALWAYS tuned to Italian League soccer.

That’s why we love Florham Park Pizzeria & Restaurant, shoehorned into the Florham Village Center on Columbia Turnpike. Patch has appreciated the old-style, hand-crafted pizza and entrees for years, even after ownership decided the place needed a facelift and installed new booths, tables and fancy-shmancy woodwork. Thankfully, some things never change, and one can still enjoy broadcasts of italiana di calcio on the TV atop the beverage case.

The full menu is a delight, from traditional and stuffed pizza, to calzone, pasta, hot and cold subs, seafood, salads, soups and much more. Patch enjoyed spaghetti and meatballs, served hot with enough meatballs to wrap up for tomorrow's lunch.

‘The prices won’t break the budget of a family looking for a meal, either, at $11 for a plain pie and $5.75 for a meatball parm sub.
