Madison Junior School Creates “How We Roll” Incentive Program
Junior school students encouraged to "do the right thing."

This year, sixth, seventh and eighth graders will be encouraged to “do the right thing” as part of the school’s year-long incentive program to teach positive social skills and recognize students who engage in positive behaviors.
As teachers and staff acknowledge students for their positive actions, they will have the chance to roll dice with Principal Nicole Sherrin and Assistant Principal Thomas Liss for small prizes.
“Students who are ‘caught doing the right thing’ will have the opportunity to roll for prizes, and the teachers who nominate them will have the opportunity to earn prizes, as well," said Sherrin. "We hope to increase both the recognition and the incidences of positive behavior in order to poster a positive school climate.”

The first winners were Charles (Doran) Horsey and Griffin Lutz. A teacher discovered that they helped clean up the bathroom so that it would not have a potential overflow problem.
Sherrin said that the school is looking for additional small donations from families and downtown business such as hats, shirts, gift cards, tickets, and accessories, so that good actions of students can continue to be recognized.

"We have received generous donations from some of our families for $5 and $10 gift cards to a local bakery, bookstore and coffee shop in town, as well as a signed New York Jets football donated from Dreams for Kids,” she said.
The larger purpose of the program is to develop life-long learners who are informed, responsible and productive citizens. Both faculty and administration at the school try to achieve this by providing challenging and diverse programs that reflect high expectations of a caring environment.
