McCool's Ice Cream: What's Your Flavor?
Madison ice cream lovers divulge their favorite flavors of this summertime treat.
In weather like this, there's only one question on the minds of most people: Chocolate or vanilla? Ice cream, that is.
When the weather gets hot, the residents of Madison try to cool down and many turn to the creamy frozen treat for some relief. Whether it's an old standard like strawberry or a new twist like cotton candy, many residents are loyal to their favorite flavor.
"You see the same people three to four times a week ordering the same flavors," said Ryan Eschenroeder, manager of McCool's Ice Cream & Coffee Bar. "Every once in a while they'll change it up, but they mostly order the same thing."
Although McCool's offers more than 40 flavors, Eschenroeder said some are more popular than others.
"The three main [flavors] are chocolate, vanilla and mint chip," he said. "Those are king, nothing even comes close to those. There's a flavor for everybody, but there are the ones that get left in the cooler. Rum Raisin is one of them, always in the back and there's a couple other ones that aren't as popular, but you have to have them because they are staples."
Eschenroeder also had a suggestion for the adventurous eater looking for a new favorite.
"Try the Roadrunner Raspberry. For some odd reason everybody passes it over but it's one of the best flavors here. It's fruity, it's got white chocolate, it's got something for everybody so it's something they gotta try."
Eschenroeder said he tries not to eat too much ice cream while on the job, but he too has a favorite.
"Mint Chip is always my favorite. Or Roadrunner Raspberry."
