Seven Madison students from third through eighth grade will be performing an abridged version of William Gibson's drama "The Miracle Worker" at 5:00pm (notice the time change) on Friday, June 13th at The Madison Community House. Admission is free, but donations are accepted to benefit the company's future productions.
This production of The Miracle Worker, the story of deaf, blind, and mute child Helen Keller and her teacher Anne Sullivan, is family-friendly. The Community House is the fifth and final location where the company is performing the drama. The students have previously performed at Matheny School in Peapack, ECLC of New Jersey in Chatham, Central Avenue School, and Grace Episcopal Church. Previous performances were private showings; this is the only public performance.
The Spotlight Kids Company, a performing arts company founded and stationed in Madison, is a non-profit company created to give younger students an opportunity to strengthen their performing abilities in a professional atmosphere. We bring historical shows rich in history and character to children who might not otherwise have the ability to learn about history through music, song, and dance.
Featured in this performance will be students Peri Munter, Rob Bazaral, Tina Munter, and Luke Bias, all from the Madison Junior School, Poppy Ehrbar from Chatham's Milton Avenue School, Lily O'Hara-Short and Lily Bias of Central Avenue School. The show is directed by Madison High School sophomore Kathryn McManus. There will be a meet-and-greet after the performance where children and parents can speak with the cast and take photos.
