Woman Shot At Cops During Car Chase That Ended In Mahwah: Police

An Alabama woman is charged with attempted murder for firing a shot at a police officer after a car chase ended in Mahwah, authorities said.

MAHWAH, NJ — An Alabama woman is charged with attempted murder after State Police said she fired a gun at a Ringwood police officers after a car chase ended on I-287 in Mahwah.

The incident happend on Wednesday, around 5:30 a.m., when a Ringwood police officer approached an SUV parked in Ringwood State Park.

According to State Police, as the officer was speaking with the driver, Lakisha Maldonado, she fled in the car, causing injury to the officer.

An assisting officer attempted to stop Maldonado, but she continued onto I-287 northbound, before her vehicle became disabled in Mahwah.

When Ringwood police officers approached the vehicle in an attempt to arrest Maldonado, she fired three rounds from a handgun, State Police said.

None of the officers were struck, and Maldonado was arrested at the scene.

She is charged with attempted murder, eluding, resisting arrest, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose. According to State Police, Maldonado faces additional charges in Passaic County.

She was lodged at the Bergen County Jail pending a bail detention hearing.
