Average Mahwah homeowner's taxes could increase $33

The average Mahwah homeowner’s municipal tax bill could increase $33 if the council approves the proposed 2015 $37.5 million budget.
A public hearing on the budget will be held at Mahwah Town Hall April 23 at 8 p.m.
The budget will be discussed and presented to taxpayers at that meeting. Attendees may ask officials questions during the meeting.

The proposed $33 increase would bring the municipal tax rate, which is the percentage of a resident’s tax bill that is appropriated for local taxes, from nearly 38 percent to 38.2 percent, a 1.9 percent increase, said Business Administrator Brian Campion.
The average home is valued at $473,000.
