The St. Louis style bagel is again getting toasted — in the bad way — on Twitter, bringing back memories of 2019's Bagelgate.

NEW JERSEY — The great bagel debate is back, and New Jersey still has the St. Louis style bagel squarely in their sights.

@NJGov, the Twitter account of the state of New Jersey, now infamous on the platform for its meme-heavy approach, has reignited the "Bagelgate" discussion.

The origins of Bagelgate date back to March 2019, when Twitter user Alek Krautmann happily shared the news he had introduced his coworkers to the St. Louis style bagel. The photo of the bagels, which are bread sliced, gained immediate ire, and even national news attention.

Now, the discussion is back, and people are just as unhappy about the non-traditional bagel cut as they were a year ago. The City on Minneapolis Twitter account called the bagel cut "a travesty".

But mainly, people seemed incensed that the photos had reappeared on their timeline at all.

"Why would you tweet this oh my god," wrote one user. "I'm offended by the picture on the right," wrote another.

The people of St. Louis, however, won't yield in their dedication to the unique bagel cut.
