Best Moment in London Summer Olympics [Poll]

There were so many terrific moments in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London that it’s mind-boggling to narrow them down to 10. Each day brought more and more moments of excitement and awe.

Patch’s Bergen County rank-order-specialist, Cornell Christianson, has compiled his Top 10 in order and it’s your turn to vote for your best Olympic moment. Keep in mind Christianson ran track at and in college, so he might lean towards track and field. 

Christianson’s Honorable Mentions are:

• U.S. Women’s 4x200m Swimming Freestyle Relay setting world record
• U.S. Women’s soccer team wins Gold
• Galen Rupp’s Silver Medal is the first US medal in the Men’s 10,000m since 1964
• Leonel Manzano’s Silver Medal is the first US medal in the Men’s 1500m since Jim Ryun in 1968
• Aly Raisman is the first U.S. woman gymnast to win Gold Medal for floor
• South Africa’s Oscar Pistorius is the first double amputee to compete in Olympics
• U.S.’s Serena Williams and Britain’s Andy Murray win Gold in tennis
• Kenya’s David Rudisha sets world record in 800m race
• U.S.’s David Boudia wins Gold in platform diving
• U.S. Women’s Water Polo Team wins their first Gold.

Vote for the Best Moment in London Olympics:

1.  U.S.’s Michael Phelps, in his final career race, wins his 18th Gold Medal and 22nd overall medal, which is the most for any athlete in any Olympic sport, earning him the title of “All Time Greatest Olympic Athlete” to go along with “All Time Greatest Swimmer.”

2.  Jamaica’s Usain Bolt wins the sprint relay, giving him two consecutive Olympics of winning the 100m, 200m and sprint relay and holding all three world records, earning him the title of “All Time Greatest Sprinter.”

3.  U.S.’s Gabby Douglas, only 16, wins the women's all-around individual Gold Medal in gymnastics, becoming the first black athlete to win an all-around gold in Olympic history (men's or women's). Gabby also set a record for being the first American female gymnast to win both the team title and the all-around individual final at the same Olympics.

4.  U.S. Women's 4x100m relay team of Allyson Felix, Carmelita Jeter, Bianca Knight, and Tianna Madison wins the first Gold Medal in this event for the US in 16 years and also breaks a world record that had been standing since 1985.

5. U.S.’s Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh Jennings win their third straight Gold Medal over three Olympics, earning them the title “All Time Greatest Beach Volleyball Team.”

6.  U.S. Women's Gymnastics Team - The U.S. men finished a disappointing fifth in team competition, but the women win the team Gold Medal for the first time since 1996.

7.  17-year-old U.S. swimmer Missy Franklin wins four Gold Medals (along with one Bronze).

8.  The U.S. goes 1-2 in the decathlon with Ashton Eaton winning Gold and Trey Hardee winning Silver, thus the US have the two “World’s Greatest Athletes”.

9. Britain’s Mo Farah wins Gold Medals in the 10,000m and 5,000m, electrifying his home crowd.

10. U.S.’s Allyson Felix wins 3 Gold Medals in 200m, sprint relay and 4x400m relay.
