A Great Resource for Donating
This blog offers people in northern New Jersey a great resource to donate their household goods for Thanksgiving or any other time of year.
I can’t believe that I’ve been an organizer in northern New Jersey for 8 years and I never knew of this particular ministry until now. I’d like to share with you all an incredible resource for your future donations.
Among many volunteers, twin brothers Dean and Doug Steyling, through local Christian Reformed Churches and the assistance of Kuiken Brothers, collect and organize truckloads of household goods and then trailer the donations to The Cary Christian Center, in Cary, Mississippi. This is one of the poorest counties in the South.
As I drove behind The Cedar Hill Christian Reformed Church in Wyckoff, I was shocked to see three tractor trailers full of donations. This ministry takes clothing, furniture, appliances in working order, household goods, toys and games. Every couple of months they will drive the donations to their thrift stores which will resell the items at minimal cost and then the money goes right back to the underprivileged in the community.

When I took the photo of the gentlemen who were helping out I couldn’t help but notice that a lot of what I saw in the trailers are what most of my clients have a tough time getting out of their houses such as large appliances and big pieces of furniture. I wondered what the 22-hour drive was like as they tag-team their driving, making these trips 4-5 times a year and over the course of a weekend. I can only imagine the appreciation and thankfulness of these people when they see the trailers arrive to help.
Should you like to donate to this charity, please call Dean at 201-481-9996 (cell) or 201-445-3906 (home). He will arrange pick-up or delivery of your donations. The volunteers tend to collect every other weekend. And if you have a strong back, they are always looking for strapping youths to help with the heavy task of loading and unloading the trucks.
