Back-To-School Tips For A Child's Bedroom

14 ways to help parents organize their childrens' bedrooms before Back-to-School.

As “Back-to-School” is upon everyone’s mind, most parents, caregivers and children will be organizing a child’s bedroom in preparation for this fall. Here are some tips and suggestions for our young people’s bedrooms to help us all stay organized and tidy:

1.Tuck PJ’s underneath the pillow or have a designated hook for “slightly worn”
pajamas. (Determine in advance how long the night clothes should be worn before
they become laundry.)

2. Use a hamper and a wastebasket for each bedroom. Designate laundry days and the house rules for them. For boys, you can utilize an over-the-door sports hamper with net to catch clothes.

3. Don’t use a top sheet, just use a duvet cover or comforter for the ease of bed  making. Also, don’t push a bed all the way against the wall. Leave a little space for easy bed-making for your child.

4. Limit the bed “cuddles” for the top of a child’s bed, maybe 3 favorites.

5. Put risers on bed legs. This will give you lots of extra “under the bed” storage.

6. Keep a rolling bin under the bed and have your child place all clothes that no
longer fit or items he/she does not like to wear anymore. Now you have an instantaneous donation bin.

7. Use a vanity for little girls accessories or dedicate a dresser drawer for such.

8. Utilize the same drawers consistently for different categories of clean clothes and label them on the inside. Your accessible drawers to little hands are prime real estate. Place the everyday items in comfortable-to-reach drawers.

9. Place a check list by their bedroom door or on their mirror until good routines are habitual.

10. Line the perimeter of the bedroom with shelving (approximately 1-1 ½’ from the ceiling) for collectibles and things that you would like to be seen but rarely touched. Incorporate any kind of shelving into the décor (bolt to wall) such as corner shelving from floor to ceiling or items such as shadow boxes that are open for trinkets.

12. Hang decorative pegs at children’s height for things such as ribbons/metals, totes, backpacks, necklaces, a robe, baseball caps etc.

13. If you have extra drawer space in a dresser or closet you can utilize for a toy
area or memorabilia.

14. Use multi-purpose furniture such as trundle beds and other beds with drawers andstorage built in.
