J-E-T-S...SAME OLE JETS

There are times when i think the New York Jets made a deal with the devil in order to win their one Super Bowl back in 1969. How else can one explain the out and out futuility that has become New York's AFC team? They have perfected the art of taking defeat out of the jaws of victory for over 40 years now and this year's edition appears to be more of the same, what a shock. The New York Jets open the 2012 exhibition football schedule this weekend with a game against the Cincinnati Bengals. This is the first chance for Gang Green faithful to see what this team will look like against a real live opponent. From their preseason so far, it is really hard to identify these Jets--just what exactly do they hope to accomplish this year. It is early but they are clearly the favorites for the Talk Team Championship again. For a team that last won an important game in 1969 the media coverage is puzzling. The Jets acquired Tim Tebow as their backup QB to Mark Sanchez and as we have said here before, they have made their very own quarterback controversy. While we admire many of Tebow's qualities his football QB talent is suspect and his presence has to hurt Sanchez's confidence. Rex Ryan returns as coach in what must be described as a make or break season. Offensive Coordinator Brian Shottenheimer has been replaced by ex Dolphins head coach Tony Sporano. Here's where it gets fuzzy.  Rex has been embarrassed by himself into not talking Super Bowl promises anymore, he has said however that the Jets are gonna be a smash mouth offense and that he Rex, is the best defensive coach in football. THIS WOULD BE LAUGHABLE IF IT WASN'T SO SAD. The Jets are ill-equipped to be any kind of smash mouth offense. It was the 1986 NY Giants that brought smash mouth football to prominence. This style of football featured huge offensive linemen that had played together for years and big straight ahead running backs that punished defenses.  This Jets offense has neither one of those staples. The offensive line of Gang Green has not been together long, is not as big, and at press time is still undergoing adjustments especially at right tackle. Green and McKnight are average running backs but without a punishing offensive line will only produce average results. As far as Rex bragging about his defensive prowess, ummm well here we go.  Buddy Ryan, Rex's dad, was a defensive wizard. His Bears 46 defense was a key component of the 85 Super Bowl Champion Chicago Bears.  Rex hasn't won anything. And by the way, that guy in New England named Bellecheck is the greatest defensive coach in the last 30 years and he has Super Bowl Rings.  It might be wise of Rex to recall last year when the Denver Broncos destroyed Rex's defense on a 95 yard drive to beat the Jets. By the way that team had a real good quarterback---I think his last name was Tebow. My littie cousin Ella is just 4 years old and she says her football team is JETSJETSJETS, I really don't wanna ruin her world, but should a 4 year old be subjected to this?
