Jets, Giants, Yankees?

Predictions on local sports

It's week two of the 2012 NFL regular season and our two area teams face tests once again.

For the New York Jets, they come off a smashing success demolishing the Buffalo Bills last week at home. The 48-28 win was not as close as the score indicated and lo and behold Gang Green found offense scoring virtually at will vs the Empire staters. As expected, the Jets dominated on defense in the first quarter but softened up some after halftime no doubt affected by the lopsided score.

I suspect the Jets will find things a little different this Sunday as they take on the Pittsburgh Steelers also known as the Iron City Lites. The Steelers play their home opener after a rough loss in Denver vs the Peyton Mannings. The Steelers will be healthier as Mendenhall returns at RB and Harrison returns at LB. This game figures to be a low scoring tilt and while the Jets have clearly upgraded their defense at safety Big Ben Rothlisberger is among the best at improvising and it says here that the IC Lites will make one more play than Gang Green and the Steelers will win 24-20.

The Super Bowl Champion New York Giants will try again to win at home. Coming off a subpar performance against the Dallas Cowgurls, Big Blue will look to take out their frustrations on the Tampa Bay Bucs now coached by NJ native and ex Rutgers coach Greg Chiano. The Bucs will not present as many challenges for the Giants defense and Prince Amakamurra will play at CB for Big Blue. Tampa will present challenges for the Giants running game as they allowed only 10 yards rushing last week to a good Carolina rushing attack. We look for the Giants to pass first and run second as the NFL has become a pass orientated league and we look for Big Blue to ramp up the pass rush on defense en route to its first home win of the season...Giants 27 Bucs 17.

THE YANKEES?  Well, Joe Girardi has managed the Yankees right into a playoff fight after having a 10 game lead. When you have 4 players at the bottom of your lineup and none of them are hitting over .250  Joe, YA GOTTA GET CREATIVE...DO SOMETHING...THEY ARE NOT GONNA HIT HOME RUNS...PLEASE! By the way, the best YES broadcasting team is Ken Singleton along with John Flaherty of Pearl River. Singleton's play by play is no frills and refreshing and Flaherty always provides great insight.
