Friday marked one week since one of the most hideous tragedies in American history--the senseless killings of 20 children and 6 adults at a Sandy Hook Connecticut Elementary School. Bells were rung 26 times reminding all of us of the awful event. To be honest this doesn't seem like a good time to be writing about sports -- as a matter of fact I chose to take a deep breath and look at what has become of my America, or America as I remember it.
-I remember John Fitzgerald Kennedy.....I remember the coffin on the wagon
-I remember wondering why all the TV shows I watched were in black and white although the TV guide said IN COLOR

-I remember the only times I saw guns on tv was in a John Wayne Movie, the Rifleman or Combat with Vic Morrow as Sgt. Saunders
-I remember having a Hi-Fi meant having a tv, stereo, and phonograph encased in one thing...a console, without remote controls
-I remember Marty Glickman and the Giants on the stereo every Sunday with dinner -- soon as we got home from church
-I remember the Beatles....I was Paul in our Beatle group because I held the "guitar" left handed...we each had Beatle wigs and Beatle boots
-I remember my cousins Steve, Roger, and Roddie...I'd give anything to talk to them just once more
-I remember whiffle ball forever.....double headers too
-I remember Yankee Stadium...no the real Yankee Stadium and over 60,000 for bat day
-I remember Sunday doubleheaders. How about that? Also Sunday night at my Uncle Leo's house and Ballantine...come to think of it I remember Mel Allen
-I remember when Apollo blew up on the launch pad killing my favorite astronaut Gus Grisson and killing my desire to be an astronaut
- I remember the walk on the moon and Apollo 13
-I remember Hawaii and Pearl Harbor...boy do I remember Pearl Harbor
-I remember the Super Bowl in Pasadena as I watched my Giants beat up the Elways in person at the Rose Bowl
-I remember 9-11. I will never forget
-I remember epilepsy...and God's healing hand touching me forever at 7 years old
NEVER WILL I LOSE THE WONDER OF THE HOLY NIGHT WE CALL CHRISTMAS
Maybe all of us need to take a look back and see where we have been? Do we like where we are going?
