MY MOUNT RUSHMORE,,,,,,OF SPORTS

As winter turns to spring and our winter heroes change into spring contenders I thoiught it would be interesting to take a deep breath and salute those that have had a profound effect on the games that people play during my lifetime.  These are the faces I would want to see on my Mount Rushmore of Sports

BILL PARCELLS-The pride of Oradell, Parcells restored the greatness of victory to the NY Giants.  Until  his time the Gmen largely ruined my post church Sunday dinner with Marty Glickman on the radio.  I was at Giants Stadium the day that Parcells replaced Ray Perkins and finally no more planes had to fly over the meadowlands.  Bill Parcells took the Giants and me to 2 Super Bowl Champions and changed forever the way the New York Giants would be looked upon.

MARIANO RIVERA-Unequalled class, talent, and championships.  Mo did it better than anyone, changed relief pitchers forever and set the bar to an untainable height. All of us need more Mo's in our lives

LAWRENCE TAYLOR-The best football player I ever saw period.  LT changed FOOTBALL, not just pro football with his relentless pursuit and demolition of quarterbacks.  Most fitting is the NFL film that shows Ron Jaworski on the field looking for Taylor who just happened to be on the other sideline on the bench---thats how much fear and respect LT commanded.  Like Bill Parcells he is largely responsible for 2 world championships with the Giants.

MARK MESSIER-The NY Rangers Messiah made good on his vow to bring a Stanley Cup Victory to New York and predicted the Game 6 win over the Devils in the 1994 semis.  Messier conducted himself with class and intensity on and off the ice and is still looked upon as "The Captain" all these years later, what does that tell you?

I think Rick Pitino's Louisville Cardinals are going to win the NCAA Mens basketballl championship.  I think co Big East contender Georgetown will also get to the final four

I think the Yankees better pay Cano.  Robbie was the MVP of the made for TV WBC and is flat out hitting the cover off the ball.  Which reminds me ,,,,who is the rocket scientist who is trying to make the Yankees of Nieman Marcus look like Walmart?  Austerity program? Salary concerns?..WHAAAAAAAAAAT?,....THESE ARE THE YANKEES!!!!!!   tHIS AINT KANSAS CITY!!!  Wait let me ask a question, if Yankee fans are gonna have to watch a minor league offense how much are you gonna reduce ticket prices?...Ohhh Ok how about making a beer only 10 bucks?..I mean its only fair right.....The Yankees are looking more like the Mets...God Help Us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
