Speaking of Pets: Smart Dogs

It seems as I surfed the web, that all the experts are in agreement which breeds are the smartest and which breeds are not so smart. From what a gathered the "smart" dogs follow and remember commands while dogs considered "not so smart" are more independent and get distracted.

If the dog is bred to hunt,herd or retrieve they will be quick on their feet,eager to work and to please you.

If a dog is bred to guard livestock or a scent hound you will find a dog that gets distracted and a bit dense.

If you want a dog to herd your cattle and guard your house and fix your computer you may want the "smart breed". If you want a big ol' love bug who likes to snuggle and sleep you may want the "independent" breed

I looked at the list and from years of dog care there are definitely exceptions to the rule....I won't mention any names :)

The book "intelligence of dogs" by Stanley Coren rates dogs by working obedience,problem solving and instinct intelligence, here is the list:

The more  "independant"----:

*Basset Hound
