NEWS ITEM KNICKS FALL TO A .500 RECORD AFTER AN 18-5 START
Well it sure was fun while it lasted. For most of this season the Knicks have provided us with entertaining excited basketball at the worlds most famous arean. Unfortunately the dysfunctionality of the team has caught up with it. The Knicks have lacked a 2 guard, power forward and backup center all year. Injuries to Amare Stoudamire, Iman Shumpert and Marcus Camby among others have taken its toll on others as they have had to play more minutes because of a lack of depth. For example look how it has affected Jason Kidd originally brought here to be a part time backup to Ray Felton at the point. Kidd has played wayyyyyyyy too many minutes now his legs are shot and so is his jumper.
One of the Knicks highlights of the season has been the preponderance of the 3 point field goal. For most NBA teams the trey is a supplement to a well rounded offensive scheme, for the Knicks it is their main offensive threat and that is a huge problem as we head to playoff time. As we are seeing the Knicks 3 point percentage is decreasing as this old assembly of players grows weary from the long season and just plain old age. As a result the Knicks do not have another way to play and come playoff time scoring the ball is not as easy as hoisting 3s. Most NBA playoff games feature halfcourt sets designed to get a good percentage shot or foul shots,,,the Knicks cannot play that way. Combined with the fact the the Knickerbockers have never played consistent defense all year it does not bode well for a long plaiyoff run. We have enjoyed it wihile it lasted though and we are still hopeful of a Knicks vs Nets first round playoff series for baskeball supremacy for our area
