THE WINTER SPORTS SEASON HAS BEGUN........REALLY?
A LOOK AT THE WINTER PRO SPORTS SCENE AND SPORTS RADIO
PRO BASKETBALL BEGINS, PRO FOOTBALL REACHES THE HALF WAY MARK, AND HOCKEY? CAN YOU SAY LABOR IMPASSE?
With all of the serious issues that have enveloped all of us through these storms, very quietly the winter professional sports season has begun. The Knicks and Nets have begun thier 82 regular game NBA schedules and so far so good. The Knicks are the NBA's lone undefeated team at press time an impressive 3-0 record with wins over Miami and Philadelphia. The 2012-2013 Knicks so far feature a slimmed down Melo Anthony and an exciting blend of team baskeball with great passing and team defense. So far the injury to Amare' Stoudamire has not been felt it will be interesting to see how the Knicks progress or regress. The Brooklyn Nets have begun thier innaugural NBA season winning thier home opener at the new Barclays Center. Due to the Hurricane the Nets had to postpone thier original home operner vs the Knicks and it seems they lost a little bit of momentum there. Its early but so far so good for both teams.
As for our hockey warriors the lest said the better. Inexcusably commissioner Gary Bettman has allowed the owners and players to reach yet another labor impasse and a sport that needs fans continues to alienate them....daaaag

The Jets and Giants near the halfway mark about where we expected them---the Giants on the way to the playoffs and Gang Green on the road to oblivion. If the Jets dont win this week in Seattle you can stick a fork in them they are done.
We have mixed feelings about the recent expansion of WFAN to include a location of 101.9 on the fm dial. While there is no question that the sound of the station is much improved on the fm dial as is the case with competitor ESPN 98.7 to my ears it is said because those 2 locations housed some of my youth ....great music and sad to say that wont ever be the case again. No doubt I love radio but I'd be lest than honest if i didnt say that seeing FM locations being used for talk and not music saddens me,.....RIP,,,WXLO,98.7, THE PIX PENTHOUSE AND CD101.9
