Celebrate the Nation’s 250th anniversary year with Nancy B. Kennedy, whose illustrated talk, “This Sacred Soil,” tells the often overlooked story of women in Revolutionary times. Return to 1776 when New Jersey enacted a surprising Constitution that allowed “all inhabitants” of the colony to vote, opening the door for some women and free Black people to vote. Meet these suffrage pioneers – some from this area – who went to the polls for 31 years, until they were stripped of the vote in 1807. Then, take a whirlwind tour around the 13 colonies – 12 of which enfranchised only men – and meet women whose brave and selfless acts helped the Patriots win the American Revolution, despite being denied a voice in our new nation.
About the speaker: Nancy B. Kennedy is the author of eight nonfiction books, most recently “Women Win the Vote! 19 for the 19th Amendment” (Norton Young Readers). She has lived in Hopewell Borough for 33 years with her “suffragent” husband, John. Join us at the Mahwah Senior Center for a night of Patriot Games and old-time fun! The Mahwah Museum will mark two milestones at once this fall: the 250th anniversary of the United States and the Museum's own 25th anniversary. To celebrate, the Museum is hosting "A Night of Patriot Game, Gala & Generosity," an America 250-themed evening of food, drinks, music, games, and prizes, on Friday, November 6, 2026, from 5:30 to 8:30 PM at the Mahwah Senior Center, 475 Corporate Dr, Mahwah, NJ 07430.

The celebration will bring together the local community, businesses, and friends of the Museum for a festive night supporting the Museum's mission to preserve and share Mahwah's history for future generations. Proceeds from the evening will fund the Museum's exhibits, educational programs, lectures, workshops, and community outreach for the year ahead.

Founded in 2001, when the Mahwah Historical Society's collections formed its foundation, the Mahwah Museum is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization governed by a volunteer Board of Trustees. Its mission is to preserve and present the history of Mahwah and its connection to the region through its historical archives, rotating exhibits, gallery talks, lectures featuring local historians, music workshops, and small group tours for schools, scouts, and seniors.

Sponsorship opportunities remain available for local businesses and community partners, including financial sponsorships, in-kind donations of food, beverages, or prizes, and raffle contributions. Sponsors are recognized through event signage, materials, and the Museum's website and social media, with top-tier sponsors receiving event tickets, verbal recognition during the program, and year-long recognition at the Museum. Businesses interested in sponsoring or making an in-kind donation are asked to contact the Museum at mahwahmuseum@gmail.com or 201-512-0099 by October 22, 2026.

Tickets for this special night are on sale now. Reserve your spot today at www.mahwahmusuem.org or at https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/a-night-of-patriot-game-gala-and-generosity.
