Dump Truck Crash Closes Route 287 In Bergen County, Hospitalizes 4

MAHWAH, NJ — Lanes of a major Bergen County highway were closed this weekend after a dump truck crashed into other vehicles and spilled rocks across the road.

State police responded to the crash on Interstate 287 around 1:18 p.m. on Saturday, Sgt. Charles Marchan said.

A preliminary investigation determined that a dump truck, a Jeep, and an Chevrolet SUV were traveling north on the highway.

Around milepost 66.4 in Mahwah, traffic slowed and the vehicles were involved in a rear-end collision.

The dump truck overturned, spilling a load of rocks and debris across the roadway, police said.

The occupants of the Jeep, Chevrolet, and dump truck were taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

All northbound lanes were shut down for about an hour, Marchan said. The right lane and shoulder were shut down for approximately four hours for cleanup.

The crash remains under investigation, and no additional information is available, he said.
