Englewood Woman Charged After Brokering Art Deal, Pocketing $273K

ENGLEWOOD, NJ — A Bergen County art dealer is charged with theft by deception after brokering the sale of an art piece on behalf of her client, but then diverting more than $270,000 to a personal financial account, the Bergen County Prosecutor announced.

Detectives from the prosecutor's Financial Crimes Unit received a complaint against Inhee Moon on June 15, 2021, which accused her of "unlawfully taking funds from the sale of a piece of artwork."

An investigation by that unit found that Moon indeed sold a piece for her client, but diverted approximately $273,000 of the sale into her own personal financial account, and, ultimately, into a real estate property that she controlled, prosecutors said.

She was arrested and charged on Tuesday with one count of second-degree theft by deception, and was released on a summons pending her first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.
