The Mahwah Regional Chamber of Commerce will honor David Alai with the Humanitarian of the Year award at the Chamber’s annual Golf Outing and Dinner on September 12, 2011. A portion of the profits from the event will be donated Mr. Alai’s chosen charity, the Center for Food Action, through the Mahwah Regional Chamber of Commerce Foundation, Inc., a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization.
The Chamber’s honoree, David Alai, is Corporate Vice President of Sharp Electronics Corporation, a company known worldwide for its unique one-of-a-kind electronic products and solutions.
At Sharp, Mr. Alai is responsible for human resources, including pension and 401(k) plans. In addition, he is in charge of corporate advertising and public relations, facilities management and community relations.

Mr. Alai has extensive interests beyond his duties at Sharp and is the recipient of a Joint Legislative Resolution from the New Jersey Senate and General Assembly recognizing his record of community leadership, exemplary volunteerism, and professional achievement.
He was appointed to and served on the New Jersey Governor’s Task Force that compared NJ state workers’ benefits with those of other states and offered recommendations to control benefits expenses. Mr. Alai serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Commerce and Industry Association of New Jersey (CIANJ) where he also holds the post of Chairman of the Strategic Planning Committee.

Mr. Alai also champions the needs of higher education as a member of the Board of Governors at Ramapo College of New Jersey.
To benefit Mr. Alai’s chosen charity, a portion of the profits from the golf outing will be donated to the Center for Food Action, www.cfanj.org. The CFA provides emergency food, rental and utility assistance, counseling, and advocacy to our neighbors in need in Bergen County and in the Upper Passaic Valley. In 2010, CFA distributed over 53,000 emergency food packages-and helped over 1,500 families stay in their homes and/or kept their heat and electric from being turned off. CFA also provided 3,900 Thanksgiving food packages to those in need. CFA also operates the NJ Anti-Hunger Coalition (NJAHC). NJAHC serves as a clearinghouse for information, training and technical assistance to emergency food providers and works to end hunger in our state.
Set for Monday, September 12, the 20th Annual Golf Outing will return to the prestigious Tuxedo Club in Tuxedo, NY. The event is open to Chamber members and non-members. Golfers of any caliber are welcome to play, or you can learn to play at the golf clinic. Even if you don’t golf, please join us for cocktails and dinner (jackets required) at the elegant Clubhouse on the Lake from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. The awards ceremony will take place during dinner.
