Ex-Councilwoman Endorses Roth For Mayor Of Mahwah
She also threw her support behind 4 Township Council candidates.
Editor's note: Lisa DiGuilio, who served on the Township Council for 28 years, submitted this letter endorsing several local candidates running in the election.
To the editor:
As a former councilwoman, I know how important it is to work together with the mayor. I also know how important it is to have a council that likes each other and wants to find ways to solve the towns issues. Over the years I was lucky enough to work with some very good Mayors and Council members.

That is why I am asking you to support the recall and vote for John Roth for mayor. I am also asking you to please support George Ervin, Robert Hermansen, Janet Ariemma, and Robert Ferguson for council.
It is time again for us to have a mayor who wants to attend council meetings and wants to support the council. John Roth will be that kind of mayor. I have worked with John in the past. He is extremely organized, bright and wants to get things done. As a former councilman, he knows how important it is to work with the council. Something that our current mayor, since he was never a council member, did not, and still does not, understand. John will be ready to go from Day 1.

For council supporting George Ervin, Rob Hermansen and Janet Ariemma is very easy for me to do. I worked with Janet and Rob. Both are passionate in looking out for the residents of Mahwah. Janet is very concerned about the environment, she takes pride in protecting our water and our trees. Rob and I have worked on the council for more than seven years. We did not always agree on everything, but he was always willing, and still is, to work together on the next issue. Do not mistake his passion for anything else but that: Passion. Take it from someone who served their constituents with passion for 28 years. Rob is a problem-solver, something that is very much necessary as a councilmember. He works hard and it always there to solve the next issue facing the town.
I never had the opportunity to serve with George Ervin or Robert Ferguson on the council, but George Ervin was on the recreation committee during the time that I was on the council. George was involved in the township cleanups, Meet The Bunny, Halloween parades, visits from Santa, etc. I have watched and attended many of the council meetings, and what I have seen is that George is someone who really loves the town of Mahwah. He is someone who can be trusted to make a decision that is in the best interest of the Mahwah residence and not himself.
Robert Ferguson is new to the political arena. I believe this is a good thing for the Township of Mahwah. Mr. Ferguson has come to the meetings has addressed the council and has come up with innovative and new ways of thinking and helping to try to solve some of the problems that have faced our town. I believe he will make an excellent addition to the Township Council.
I ask again that you support the recall and support John Roth for mayor. I also asked that you join me in supporting George Ervin, Robert Hermansen, Janet Ariemma, and Robert Ferguson for Council on Nov. 6.
Lisa DiGuilio,
former Mahwah Township councilwoman
