A team of firefighters, police officers and EMTs from Mahwah are the Bergen Firemen’s Softball League 2012 champions. According to a release from the department, the Mahwah team won the best of a three-game championship series against Oradell in a two-game sweep.
Saturday night, the team squeaked past the team from Oradell, coming up with a 17-16 win on Oradell’s home turf.
Sunday, Mahwah won its second game 14-6. According to the release, it was an “exciting game filled with awesome hits and playing in the field.” The team “was cheered on by a large crowd of family, friends and fellow firefighters.” The Sunday game was played at Mahwah’s .

The victory comes after weeks of regular season play, in which the Mahwah team accumulated an 8-2 record. Last year, in the championship rounds of play.
