Gymnastics Teacher Charged With Sex Assault Of Child Under 13 In Bergen County

A gymnastics teacher in Bergen County was arrested Tuesday on charges that he assaulted a child under 13 over 6 months.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A Bergen County-based gymnastics teacher was charged Monday with the aggravated sexual assault of a child under 13 "on multiple occasions" over six months, the county prosecutor's office said Wednesday.

Anibal Oyola, 39, of Leonia, was charged with aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault by sexual contact, and endangering the welfare of a child.

On Monday, the Leonia Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding the alleged sexual assault of a child, the prosecutor's office said. An investigation led to the charges.

Oyola was arrested in Paramus on Tuesday, prosecutors said.

He was taken to the Bergen County Jail pending his first appearance in Central Judicial
Processing Court in Hackensack.
