I awoke this morning to the sounds of American history- that of the late Dr. King as de spoke to the masses expressing nonviolent disapproval of the way things were and the hope of how they might be—someday.

Once again I was moved to tears as I heard the man’s powerful yet diligent voice assess the way things were and his fervent hope for a better day for all.

I remember the night it happened I was home watching TV and my Dad was with me in the living room, at that time we only had one TV. A news bulletin came on the screen reporting his murder and somehow just like when JFK was shot I knew then even at an early age something awful had just happened.

All these years later I’ve often wondered just how much different my life would have been had it not been for Dr. King and how much better it could have been had he not been so senselessly murdered. I also wonder just what he would think of America today and the world in general where hatred and its violence seem hotter than ever. Today it seems there is so much dissatisfaction with just about everything I often wonder how we got this way. Leadership of our country, world, churches, and homes are the biggest culprits in my eyes. Ironically enough in the eyes of some even peaceful attempts to resolve conflicts or the people attempting to resolve conflicts are disparaged today. One of the aims of Dr. King’s protests was dialogue along with understanding and resolution ---without dialogue there is no hope

I guess what I’m saying is maybe we can all commemorate the birthday of this great man by actually implementing many of the attributes he exhibited---eloquence in speech, sincerity in listening and thoughtfulness in resolution IN A NON VIOLENT WAY!

How is it that in our world today we burn down our own cities and despise in general the very people whose obligation it is to see that the general public exist in peace here in America? How did we get to this point? What would Dr King say about that?
