Jaguar-Land Rover Slated To Keep 252 Jobs In Mahwah Due To Tax Brakes

Company could move from MacArthur Boulevard to Sharp Plaza and add another 62 jobs to the local economy, officials said.

More than 250 jobs could stay in Mahwah thanks to a $27 million tax break awarded to Jaguar-Land Rover North America by the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (EDA).

The EDA’s board approved the tax break at a meeting this week.

The money should mean that the company would its North American headquarters from MacArthur Boulevard to the 147,000 square-foot facility in Sharp Plaza. The move would also mean the company could add an additional employees 62 to the 252 the facility already supports.

Leah Watkins-Hall, a spokeswoman for Jaguar, told NorthJersey.com that the company is “working on a project to upgrade its headquarters facilities.”

“We are looking at a variety of options, with the preference to remain in the greater New York metro market,” she told the website.

Bryan Becker, CEO of Becker Organization, which is the agent for Sharp Office Equities LLC, the building’s owner, said the negotiations between all parties are continuing.

“We are working diligently with all parties to get this transaction completed,” said Becker. ”It is an ongoing, active negotiation that has not been completed yet.”

Jaguar-North America is also considering moving to Pearl River, New York, a move that would be more expensive had the EDA not approved the tax break.

Mahwah Mayor William Laforet said he is glad the transaction continues to move forward.

“Obviously, keeping jobs in Mahwah is important,” Laforet said. “Our biggest fear is that what happened to Mercedes Benz in Montvale, happens here.”

Mercedez Benz is relocating its U.S. headquarters to Georgia along with 850 employees, NorthJersey.com reported.
